Liars praise Radiohead
New
York based indie rockers Liars have praised Radiohead
after being invited onto a world tour with the British
band. Liars and Radiohead have plenty in common. A
maverick streak, a desire to evolve artistically - the
two groups are almost unrecognisable from the material
they released a decade ago.
New York group Liars are set to return with their album
'Sisterworld' in March. An ambitious return, it will
come complete with a bonus album of remixes by some
famous friends. Amongst the stellar cast are members of
Suicide, Atlas Sound and Radiohead's Thom Yorke.
Speaking to BBC Radio 6, Liars revealed that their
friendship with Radiohead began some time ago. Invited
onto the band's world tour the New York group were
astonished to see the level of dedication the Oxford
musician's put into their green energy pledges. “It was
certainly amazing to see a band put together a tour that
was completely earth conscious. You couldn’t have had
these plastic cups here,” Angus Andrew said. “That’s
just not allowed. There were no plastic water bottles,
they gave you a nice one that had screen printing on it
and you carried that around with you the whole time.”
Continuing, the singer remarked that it could well be
time that more groups took a (hopefully metaphorical)
leaf out of Radiohead's book. “It’s quite out of control
what other touring acts actually take with them on the
road with them,” he said.
“So it’s not silly or superficial, or something to show
off with when you really try to make a difference there.
A lot of trucks and a lot of gear just ends up making a
big mess.”
Liars admitted that Radiohead could well be helping the
climate change movement. “They infuse the cause with
their own take on music and visuals, so I think that
made it more inspiring again because it wasn’t two
unattached things,” he said.
Liars are set to release their new album 'Sisterworld'
in March.
